Another thing about the rustler, it is very simple. The suspension and tranny are not complex so it is a good learning truck.

RE: want a truck for my six year old
In my opinion i would go with a traxxas stadium maxx. they are simple and easy to learn. It is easy to work on a stadium maxx and as time goes on you can upgrade for more power. plus it is going to save you a couple of bucks so if you.... lol i mean your son gets into the hobby and don't like it you wont be out all the money you would be for a revo. and as far as a rustler goes there are definetly not for a beginner. i know everyone says the revo is the best bet but that is also one of the most explensive truck from traxxas.
I also want to say that for a six year old this will be a father son hobby.. because there is no way a six year old can keep up with the tuning and everything that goes along with this hobby. you have an afterrun procedure everytime you start it and then everytime the temperature changes you have to retune it so you need to think about these things before you decide between electric or nitro

RE: want a truck for my six year old
thanks guys, it means allot to me for you to take the time to respond to a newbie's questions that you probrably see daily.
I understand we're jumping in deep with this thing, but I look at it like fishing "inshoreslam IS my name"... My boy got his first fishing rod "snoopy" for his first birthday. He showed interest in it throwing that stupid rubber fish all over the place including at me. By the time he had the strength to hold a full sized rod he got a five foot one "zebco". Now, at age six he doesn't even want to use his rods anymore, he wants daddy's 7' baitcasting rods... Not the spining rods, the baitcasters!!! He is a pretty smart kid and is amazing at video games, I don't think he'll have ANY problem running the thing in short order. Plus I intend helping him with running the monster and keeping it up, he definately isn't qualified to be handling nitro fuel "God help us". We have a pretty big yard "acre" with minimal trees so we'll be doing our training in the grass.
I showed him a couple of the videos you guys posted and ask him if he wants one... His answer, in a modest, almost affraid voice, almost like haven't we been down this road before "with his momma's cord attached junker". His answer "yes" and that was it [sm=lol.gif] Once he hears that baby fire off, smelling the nitro and tearing up everthing in its path, I believe I'll be playing with that truck more than I want to. lol

Can anyone beat this? Looks like all I'll need to buy extra is some fuel and batteries huh?

I can't seem to find the 5309 at a decent price, looks to be fading out in that option

RE: want a truck for my six year old
Get the Revo. My son just turned 4 and he drove the Revo all summer. And he can drive the 4tec and inferno gt. Just get a controls where you can limit the throttle travel till he gets some time under his belt. Little kids learn fast but they also like to take things to the limit. My son only cost me $46 this summer in broken parts. 1 head-on crash into the curb. But the breaks when set up right then. So I cant blame him. Whatever he gets he'll be happy and in the end thats what this hobby is about.

Deffenently a revo. Its a great truck and at about the top of the food chain when it comes to MT's. They have lots of potential are pretty easy to work with also. Plus its right in your price range.
Heres an example of a few Revo's: These are far from stock but it shows you how much potential it has.

If you want to look at another MT you should look at an LST2. Its an 1/8 scale so its a lot bigger then the revo, but just as fast. You should also see what brands your hobby store stocks. It'd be a good idea to get a truck that you can get replacement parts for at the hobby store rather then online.
Don't tell the guys at the hobby store its for your kid. Say its for you and you should gets some better answers. Most of the time your kid is gonna like the same thing you do.
