big block in a t maxx
has anyone done this here, was it worth it to convert to a BB..or was it too much of a hassle. i bought a picco p3 .26 and would like to put it in, but its too big for the regular chassis so now i am debating if it would be worth it or if i should sell the motor and just keep what i have now

RE: big block in a t maxx
4 years ago (b4 there was a 3.3 chassis) I converted my S-Maxx to a BB chassis. I think I paid less than $20 for the chassis. If you buy stuff off ebay you can get the new T-Maxx extended 3.3 chassis with the extended chassis braces for about $20 and then you'll need to get a BB motor mount from New Era and I think that's about $40. Of course you'll need a longer drive shaft too. Then you'll need to upgrade the diff to either the steel Robinson Racing diff gears or just get the Traxxas diff lockers. When I put my Sirio .23 in my S-Maxx I quickly blew my rear diff. So I bought the Robinson Racing steel gears and that cost me $43 for one diff. The Traxxas lockers were only $12 I think and I bought that for another S-Maxx and it ran fine with the locker in it. Also you might need the 3.3 wheels and tires because the older setup is too soft and the T-Maxx will wobble from side to side the faster you go. I learned that when I went with the higher clutch bell/spur gear on my 2.5 engine.
If I were you I would keep everything and convert it over. That .26 is an amazing engine. I have one in my Revo and I love it. If you decide to convert everything I would get a 24 tooth clutchbell and 64 tooth spur gear because with that it will still wheelie like crazy but will also have amazing top end. Or either look for a T-Maxx 3.3 Rolling Chassis and then all you'll need to get is the engine mount. Good luck.

RE: big block in a t maxx
i have looked into the the 3.3 chassis and it is only extended in the front so it won't work.that really sucks lol. i need the room in the rear of the chassis. plus i think my tranny will be my only week spot with this motor, i already have steel diff gears and alluminum combo bulkhead from FLM.

If you look at the 4 rectangular slots where the engine mount go and 4 the holes for the rear bulk head holes on both chassis, you can see where it's extended. Look thru the T-Maxx thread and you'll see where guys are replacing the3.3 engines on theirs with big blocks and I think the only thing they're changing is the motor mount.

RE: big block in a t maxx
are they replacing it with a true big block or one of the drop in big block. the .26 i got is a real big block and i need at minimum 1"-2" of room in the back. from the photos it look like you are only gaining about 1/2". if it would work it would save a lot of $$$$ but i think i need something more like this

yeah don't want to spend that kind of cash, new era models have some kits that seem like they would work and cheaper than the dynamite kit

Here's some pics of my New Era extended chassis... Just got a 2.5 now but planning for the future (picco, co, co echoes thru his head)... Dont know if a full big block would fit but with the offset picco mount it might... Yes that screw is cross threaded, but its integy n e ways... Did it on purpose to justify buying the FLM bulk I havent mounted yet...

RE: big block in a t maxx
so are the engine mounting holes farther away from the tranny with that chassis, that what i need is the whole engine to sit back more. looks good though, over all do you like the new ara chassis

RE: big block in a t maxx
Hey FullyFord. I'm looking for my post of the .21 big block I put in my tmaxx. My other computer got a horrible virus and I lost everything but If you put this into your your web browser address ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7812577/tm.htm ) That should give you a start. I had another guy that wanted the same thing and I'm going to find the info I gave to him. I have a O.S. Engine .21RG(p) in my Tmaxx 3.3. It took a bit of trimming and shaving and a big block motor mount but it works and it was worth it for me. Oh, for the big block motor mount you don't need to drill different holes in the chassis but the rear shock tower needs trimmed. Only because I didn't want to spend the money on a BB chassis. I'm really advanced in the nitro's so it was fun for me. For me I love the deep throaty growl of a big block over a small block. Anything else let me know. I'll keep looking for the answers to your question, gimmee about 24 hours. Peace Out.

RE: big block in a t maxx
Sorry, Thunderbird93 is right, if you put a bigblock in the new 4908 Tmaxx you will only need a BB motor mount. Anything else you'll need to trim the rear shock tower. The BB motor mount let's the motor sit back so the gear mesh lines up perfectly. The BB motor mount I got from a previous truck, but it's priceless. I swap the OS engine and the traxxas 3.3 from my 4908 chassis to the 4909 chassis often. Now I have them both set up so I just have to unbolt the motor mounts and switch them and they drop in each other. Gosh I hope I'm making sense.

RE: big block in a t maxx
looked at your pics, and i dont thin it will work unless i was to completely remove the one shock. this .26 is quite a bit bigger than the .21 that i have

RE: big block in a t maxx
i run a ACNCM chassis. aside from being kinda heavy, its a nice stout set up. it has 2 sets of engine mount holes in it for a big block or the stock traxxas engine mount and engines.
my truck weighs in at 10lbs 12 ounces RTR
