Default Skymaster Kits

Are there any good kits of the Cessna skymaster in the 80" range? I think that it's a beautiful plane and the push-pull setup should mot be to difficult to fly.

Here's one that claims to be an ARF, but it's not.

It's more of a Short Kit. The outter wings are balsa covered foam, but the rest you build.

Also, Marutaka makes one, but beware, this IS a BUILDERS kit. (I.E. not much instruction, and lots and lots of carving and sanding.

aviomodelli has a kit as well. Have it on the list to build over the winter. Did build and fly one of the original Royal kits. And you are correct the twin pull push is easy to fly.

Had two Saito 45's for power and it would fly on one.

KMP will have an ARF around the end of Oct. About 80" or so.

The skymaster looks pretty tempting at that price

How is KMP's quality though? I've seen both the P-38 and the Sea Fury and have been unimpressed with fit and finish. The P-38 seems only semi-scale and the Sea Fury I saw had a VERY POOR and LARGE fiberglass seam and a misaligned paint job.

Does anyone have any good experience with their kits? From the pics, it seems like the Skymaster's front lead-edge wing to fuse fairing is nonexistant - making it look a little weird.

Anyone?

Hi Everyone,

regarding the seams......the way these airplanes are manufactured is such that the two halves come out of the mold already painted with a high gloss gelcoat finish. The halves are then mated.

In the future when we do not use gelcoat, we are going to join the halves and then paint the unit once filled and sanded for a seamless finish. This is the method currently used on the New Hurricane and Corsair. Indeed, it is a nicer finish but you lose the gloss.....which many warbird flyers don't want anyhow.

Cheers[8D],
Andrew
