OK
That makes 15 pilots interested enough to answer, with a total of 19 twin warbirds.
Do y'all think that's enough to keep talking it up?
I think we need to do a little magic here: turn some Hangar Queens into Flyin' Machines!
Can't believe that's all the P-38's that have been built in the last couple of years.

Rv man
Or the manufacturers are making them because there are nuts like me who want them and no one else does it. Yes, Yellow and Robart do, but have you checked those prices??
Besides they are cool.

RE: Head Count
so have we picked a spot? I am not sure that a single type (just P38) would draw enough crowd, no matter where you held it, how bout you open it up to twin warbirds?

RE: Head Count
My Ziroli should be done and I would be willing to attend provided Murphy doesn't get involved in the meantime. Should be able to post some pics later on. Santa gave me a digital camera and as soon as I figure it out I'll share. Regards G.

I vote for Bomber Field[sm=lol.gif]! You will pick-up a ton of twins from the Mexico border all the way into Louisiana. Bet you get at least 20 aircraft from just that bunch.

RE: Head Count
Bomber already hosts a couple of events each year, I think a Midwest location is due. I know of several large B17's and a couple of B29's in Iowa alone not to forget them big multis up in MN and WI. Missouri (anybody in St. Louis willing to step up) Nebraska, or Kansas would be good. I am willing to take this to the board (of which I happen to be a member) of our club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, if there is interest in coming here, we have plenty of hotels and resturants.
I have added some pics of our field, this was taken shortly after the runway was installed, we have reseeded a lot of the grass areas and a lot of them have filled in nicely. The flight area is to the bottom of the pic, the farm field to the left was corn last year so we anticipate it to be beans next year In pic 2 it shows some trees, the group at center left have been removed and the others our outide of our normal flight area.

RE: Head Count
Well besides being closer for me it looks like a winner to me. All I have is an A-26. Lost my B-25 to lack of airflow over the wings.[] But will rebuild and fly again. Also have two B-17s on the table. And a P-38 waitng for a little attention.

RE: P-38 Fly-In
I'm building the GP P-38 Profile as a fun twin trainer. I have the Ziroli plans for the real P-38. Hope to start building soon. I have a B-25 that I might have finished before then. I'm working in Waterloo, Iowa but currently live in Ottawa, Kansas. I would be very interested in the twin fly-in.
thanks

RE: P-38 Fly-In
Texas is quite a poke for us poor tired old guys in Michigan. If it was a little
closer we could probably muster up 5 or 6 twins. Three Ziroli B25's, Ziroli D18,
Ziroli P-38 and a Campbell F7F are in the area. Sounds like almost too much fun.

RE: P-38 Fly-In
You know, it seems like this is evolving into two basic areas of interest: the Midwest and the South/Southwest. Maybe we should think about two centers, maybe simultaneous events, to get it going and keep folks from having to drive too far the first year. Stick a pin in the map at Peoria, IL and Dallas, TX and draw a 300 mile radius around each and you've covered a pretty good number of these responses. Overlap those circles in Kansas City and you're within 600 miles of everybody the second year if it's been a success and people are fired up about it. Or stick with TX or IL if one is greatly more successful than the other.
Naturally, everybody would like to have it at their field or just down the road, but that might not be as much of a slam dunk as you first imagine. Face it: once you get the birds packed up in the trailer, what's an extra 200 miles or so? Interesting new faces, new places, and MOST OF THE WORK'S GONNA BE DONE BY THE GUYS HOSTING THE EVENT! For that reason alone, I'm hoping it's a long way from home.

RE: P-38 Fly-In
Need for Speed-RCU Welcome to Iowa, did you bring a plane with you? There is a good club up there in Waterloo and they have a super field in New Hartford. I am not sure how to contact them any more since thier hobby shop closed. There should be a few of us out to our field Jan 1, if nothing is going on feel free to come down and visit.
I am not seeing anyone jumping up to host this, how do we get this ball a'rollin?

RE: P-38 Fly-In
hmmmm I would love to show up and maybe fly... but I am not into driving very far... it takes all I got just to have the concentration to fly one of these twins!! I live in Salt Lake City... I am trying to drum up some warbird interest here as it is.. there are plenty of warbirds here but so far no real fly in has happened that I know of...
anyways I have a P-38 in the box stilll but I have a German twin... Ta-154
I guess it depends on if i take my vitamins as to how far I would drive ! and would other warbirds be eligible to fly? or twins only... (just thinking how sad it would be to break my only twin on the first flight and be grounded ! lol )

RE: P-38 Fly-In
Thanks !
Most of us tend to use motors that are in the upper range listed for the plane by the manufacturer. The altitude is what hits us most. I flew a plane down in theCalifornia desert one Christmas and couldnt believe how fast it was flying... compared to back home in Utah.
My TA-154 uses 2 OS .52's . They seem to give plenty of power. In the winter the planes fly much better than in the summer but it is too dang cold ! I guess the same applies most everywhere else.

We would welcome you guys!
Our club would welcome you to fly from our field. We are in Kosciusko, MS, which is in the center of the state on the scenic Natchez Trace. We have a grass field and probably could use the airport strip, which is right by our strip. Our club is small, but has a lot of heart. There are RV hookups less than 3 miles from the field. Good country food and great southern hospitality. The weather is temperate most of the year. We flew New Years eve and day. I would be glad to answer any questions you guys might have.
