Largest # of Engines on Plane
I'll be there .
like a moth to a light bulb, you start up six engines on one plane and I'm there . I'll shoot some AVI this time and maybe post a link so others can see and hear this beast. if anyone is interested?
WYLDMAN
and thanks for the compliment ,but it was your determination to build the overkill that made it fly. And I,m glad you kept your cool on the maiden flight otherwise we would never hear the end of it.

Largest # of Engines on Plane
Sorry Smoky,
I pulled that off the Shuswap Lake Aeromodelers website. I have seen this bird fly and I believe it's powered by 4 OS .46 FX's. It's built and designed by Ted Russell. He's well known in these parts mostly for his scale airplanes but he also builds these quasi Pattern-speed ships. I have only seen them on floats.
The big Shuswap Float-fly is next weekend and I'll see if I can gather some more info.
Here's Ted and his Otter - note the scale flaps and flaperon. Not easy to get the geometry right - trust me I Know.

RE: Revisited picture
Well guys you got me going. I'm going to to take a fourstar 60 and do a little kit bashing of my own and put four OS 26 fourstrokers on it and see what I have. Im sorry but I mite do a little copying of your Overkill not comepletely but I will be using a few of your ideas. I ope you don't have a problem with that.

RE: Largest # of Engines on Plane
I think shredder would be proud if used every thing you wanted and if you have questions I know he will help you all he can.
but if your going to use four engines on the 4star why not go five and put one in the nose too.

RE: Largest # of Engines on Plane
wyldman thought of that but decided to put six OS26 fourstroker on it and mabe an extra wing panel on each side. I think I will maybe add flaps and maybe a set of airbrakes like the A-lE had in Thialand. I think though I will kind of borrow the look of a B-29 on the nose and cockpit. Don't know for sure about the landing gear just yet but will work it out as I go. I will defenately in crease the size of the rudder though. Guess I could mabe have seven engines though Hve they flown Overkill some more or has something happened to it I hope not. Did their wing airbrakes work or did disaster happen.

RE: Largest # of Engines on Plane
The overkill is just fine we had bad weather all weekend (rain) so it was grounded.
but the next time it goes up I will get video to post .
Are you going to build yours as a taildragger ?
As for the overkills airbrakes they work ,but it needs more flight time to figure out how much to deploy them , right now it's all or nothing .

RE: Largest # of Engines on Plane
Wyldman I think I will kind of do like a B-52 gear are except they won't retract then I will put a couple of wing tip wheels or just a couple of wires to keep the plane from tipping. Each engine will have its own throttle servo and fuel tank maybe six ounce. I do think I will put flaps on it though and like a B-52 I will put airbrakes on the wing for the ailerons instead of ailerons. That is how a B-52 is able to bank and turn.

RE: Largest # of Engines on Plane
I am glad that someone got "sparked" by the Overkill. I myself am currently designing a second one right now. The only bad tend this thing has is that anything more than a gentle turn the lower wing drops soon and very fast. The good thing is that even at or below stall speed the ailerons work great because the props blow on them constantly and you can level her out of trouble quicker than she got in! I can almost bang the wing tips on the ground during engine run ups on the ground because of excellent air flow over the surfaces.
As far as the huge rudder she has, go to RCSportflyers.com and go see the link (Bills link labled "Bill" I think) and watch the second video of a fouled grass take off. (It also has sound) During take off the plane kept going left. I couldn't hold a straight line so instead of aborting I hammered full throttle and turned left and tried to launch her off the hill. As soon as she left the ground she made a complete 90 degree left turn in the air because of the major rudder authority. I will respect that rudder from now on! I am going to put the tanks in the fuse on the next one(s). Six tanks of 8 oz each means about one pound of fuel weight in each wing - this kills agility especially at low speeds. Once again I am not just bragging when I say that 4 two stroke .46's would fly this plane just fine, but six! Man she goes up, and I mean straight up!
I like the idea of a high wing and the rear gear half hidden in the use..... Hmmmmm
I am going to keep thing simple this time and much lighter. I don't think the air horn up front or even the air brakes at the tips are necessary. I might even split up the wing - ten feet of wing is hard to haul around and set up. I also want this plane to be on one transmitter instead of two.

99mph was the best I could do way back in the 1950's, in an Unlimited Hydro, was trying to get into the 100 MPH club. since jobs have changed to retirement. its trying scratch design and build a 81",1929 Russian, "K-Tjazholij", refered as K-7. 6 tractor and 1 pusher. the dinning room table is just big enough for this 7 electric motor monster. will keep yaaalll posted. dick
